For Herrera, fashion is about proportion and not hem length. According to her, knowing what to wear and dressing for a feminine look are two important elements of being well-dressed. Her fashion style is classic and effortlessly chic. Although Carolina Herrera loves colors, her personal preference has been given to black and white. A simple cotton white shirt has been the key element of her look throughout her life.

In New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2011, Carolina Herrera updated her signature gowns by playing with colors including a red skirt teamed with a white and red texture blouse, and a textured gown in a metallic silver at the top turning into blue at the bottom gradually. “Keep it classy, New York” was the message from the always super-poised and elegant Carolina Herrera. The evening gowns that made Carolina Herrera a fave of different celebs like January Jones and Renee Zellweger were textured and mostly colorful, including the beautiful black liquid jacquard finale dress and the strapless turquoise and red ombre number worn by Karlie Kloss.

Today, Carolina Herrera has dressed many famous faces for big events. She got a big break when fashion icon Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis asked Herrera to start providing her with clothes. For the last twelve years of her life, she dressed Onassis, gaining other big clients. The list includes Salma Hayek, Shakira, Nicole Kidman and Renee Zellweger, who had Herrera to design her wedding gown.
