Giorgio Armani is one of the popular fashion designers, who operates and owns his self-named brand of clothing and is touted as Italy's most thriving fashion designer.Giorgio Armani was born on July 11, 1934 in Piacenza, Italy and initially intended on learning medicine and took admission in Milan University to become a doctor.

Instead of studying the medical arts, nevertheless, Armani found his obsession in photography. In year 1957, at the age of 23, Armani was called on for military service with the Italian armed forces.

After travelling forth and back to England, Armani took a job as a designer with the fashion house Nino Cerruti. He lived there from year 1961 to 1970, designing clothing for the Hitman line prior to leaving work as a self-employed designer.

His annotations of English fashion helped him well and his admiration for clean lines aided him to begin his own brand in year 1974. He came up with his own brand with his partner and friend Sergio Galeotti and, in year 1975, commenced a womenswear line with Rosanna Armani (his sister), after ten years Galeotti died because of disease (AIDS).

Armani has since seen the start of Armani Underwear, Swimwear, Armani Accessories, Giorgio Armani Junior and Occhiali. A good perceptive of branding power guided him to start a line of inexpensive garments entitled Armani Jeans and Emporio Armani in year 1981.

Armani was the first fashion designer to proscribe ultra-thin models from his fashion shows, concentrating instead on women with a Body Mass Index of over 18. He was also the first fashion designer to telecast a fashion show live with the help of internet for the summer/spring show of year 2007.

His wide assortment of styles and wide demand has earned him international credit in both, as a versatile designer and in the fashion world, for the common man.
