Holly Golightly is the central fictional character of the popular film, Breakfast at Tiffany's. Her character is represented by Audrey Hepburn. When it comes to the fashion in the film, it's difficult to say who is considered more of a fashion icon – Miss Holly Golightly or the beautiful Audrey Hepburn. It is pretty much impossible to consider one without the other.Most of you are probably already familiar with the different outfits Holly donned throughout the movie.
She is appreciated for her bathtub couch, her extrovert personality, and the way she can pull off wearing an over-sized shirt, a sleep mask or tasselled earplugs.
Holly Golightly boasts a large wardrobe, the most famous piece in it appears in the opening shot, in which Holly is eating a pastry out of a paper bag, apparently on her way home from an all-night party. She had worn a black, floor-length dress, paired with a massive draped pearl necklace and over-sized black sunglasses.
Most of Holly's clothes in the movie are black, which makes sense that she's an ambitious socialite. While glamorous is a necessity, black is luxury. A variety of black dresses gets a lot of play with various accessories; in Holly's case, the accessories are broad-brimmed hats and jewels.
As the film progresses, Holly wears more colorful and casual clothes. Her bold orange overcoat seem to be more appropriate for a silly afternoon, and her black cropped pants and cream turtleneck sweater seem more suitable for cooking and knitting than one of her party dresses. Her pink party dress, that she worn on a date with a man whom she wants to marry, is a sign of hope and happiness. It is the fine example of Givenchy brand of youth optimism. They have used intricate textures, bright colors and airy embellishments with a light hand, which made his clothes wearable and elegant at the same time.
There is no question that Holly Golightly had impeccable style. She looks stunning in almost all the scenes of the movie and hence, is considered as one of the most fashionable characters.
