Sex and the City has become an intellectual phenomenon in the early 2000 and in late 90’s. The show finished a six-season dash in 2004 but the impact went far after the series finale. Women sought to wear the fashion and purchased the high-end brands the girls in the program possessed.A show based on four fabulous women, working and living in Manhattan cannot have a easy wardrobe. These four women go to the hottest restaurants, best clubs and the most high-class art galleries.
Charlotte, Carrie, Miranda and Samantha must wear the latest and best trends. They stay in front of the flow and become the trend.
Vice-president and creative director of Stylesight, Merrill Greene, believes that Sex and the City is crucial to what now drives style. “Patricia (Fields, costume designer) is always on the edge, mixing things up, mixing highbrow and lowbrow.”
These four women made Jimmy Choo Manolo and Blahnik household names and would waste extreme amounts of money on outfits and shoes and not blink an eye.
Some of the fashion trends the four women started are:
The curly bob haircut
Large fabric flower pins
Large skirts style from 1950’s with tight, modern tops and accessories
Pairing silver stilettos with cargo pants or jeans
Vintage dresses with luxurious bags and shoe
Gold name necklaces
Extensive strands of pearls
Large belts
Multiple Horseshoe necklaces
“Ghetto Gold” jewelry
With the release of the movie Sex and the City, the show’s costume designer had the four women traipsing around city in the same eye catch, sometimes doubtful, fashions they wore in the show.
