One of the globe’s premier fashion models, Stella Tennant is often a familiar face to the fashion world for her classic model figure and distinctive lanky, high couture slouch. She paved the way for several androgynous models with that characteristic non-smiling, somber look.Stella Tennant was born on December 17, 1970 in Chatsworth, England. Raised in a privileged family, her parents were Honorable Tobias William Tennant and Lady Emma Cavendish.

Her grandparents were Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, and completing the royal family tree, Tennant was even a distantcousin of Princess Diana. Tennant was subsequently raised in Scotland.

Attending St Leonard's School in St Andrews, Tennant went on to pursue her secondary education at Winchester School of Art. Her preferred medium was sculpture, and Tennant received lots of promising praise through that avenue.

The story of Tennant’s rise to fame in modeling remains unconfirmed, and it has become somewhat of a fashion urban myth. As the story goes, she took and sent photos of herself to a fashion magazine, after which a friend introduced her to Plum Sykes, a prominent fashion writer. With her unconventional, androgynous attributes, and her aristocratic look compromised by a pierced nasal septum, Tennant was an intriguing face.

Unlike anything in those days of the fashion world, Tennant caught the attention of famed photographer Steven Meisel as well as Bruce Weber. Her look caught on immediately, and she swiftly found herself as the new fashion "it" girl. She posed for Vogue in their British, French, and Italian editions as well as Harper’s Bazaar and Numero.

Embodying the face of the new model, Tennant swiftly moved from photo shoots to catwalks. She became a favorite of revered designer Coco Chanel, and she is widely regarded as the muse of Karl Lagerfeld.

Her advertising work is extremely varied, ranging from the relatively everyday apparel of Calvin Klein to the highest, most exclusive lines like Hermes and Burberry.

She was also briefly featured in the 1996 documentary, Catwalk. The film included star after star of the fashion world, which includes Christy Turlington, Giorgio Armani, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss, Claudia Schiffer, Gianni Versace, Anna Wintour, and many others.
Tennant married photographer David Lasnet in 1995, and they're still together. Defying many of the model stereotypes, Tennant is the proud mother of 4 children. Her eldest is Marcel who was born in 1998. Her next child was Cecily, who came in 2001. Jasmine followed 2 yrs later, and her youngest was born in 2005.

Though officially retired, Tennant still takes a few side jobs while maintaining her line of baby wear entitled Tennant and Son.
She currently resides in Scotland with her family.
